JEE Main is the same as AIEEE (both exams are conducted for admission to engineering colleges in India). The AIEEE was discontinued in year 2013 and is now known as JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) and JEE Advanced is the second and final phase of JEE. The exam is conducted by selected IITs rotationally to offer admission in 23 IITs. Candidates who qualify the JEE Main and are in the top ranks can only appear for JEE Advanced .

Eligibility Criteria for IIT JEE EXAM
1. Qualifying Examination: The candidate should have passed their Class 12th examination or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.
2. Minimum Marks: The candidate must have scored at least 75% marks [65% for SC, ST, and PwD (person with disabilities) candidates] in their Class 12th examination or should be in the top 20 percentile in their respective boards.
3. Number of Attempts: A candidate can attempt JEE Advanced(a maximum of two times in consecutive years).
4. JEE Main Exam: Candidates must clear the JEE Main exam and be among the top 2,50,000* candidates (including all categories) in order to be eligible for JEE Advanced. (*The number may vary slightly each year.)
5. Nationality: Indian nationals as well as foreign nationals (including PIO (person of Indian origin)/OCI (overseas citizenship of India) are eligible to apply for JEE Advanced.
