JEE Main vs JEE Advanced – Key Difference in Preparation, Syllabus and Difficulty

JEE (Joint Entrance Exam) is a national entrance exam which is held for students who want to pursue an engineering course. It is a gateway to some of the most prestigious engineering colleges in the country, including the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). JEE Exam has two stages, 1st stage is JEE Main and 2nd stage is JEE Advanced but most of the times students are confused about what the basic difference. 

JEE Main 

This is the 1st stage of the entrance exam which is conducted by the NTA (National Testing Agency) twice in a year. Once you clear this exam you can get admission into NIT, IITs (Indian Institute of Information technology) and other private and government colleges depending upon the rank you get. 

JEE Advanced

This is the 2nd stage of the entrance exam which is conducted by IITs. Only those students who get minimum marks in JEE Main can qualify for JEE Advance. Once you clear this exam you can get admission into IIT (Indian Institute of Technology).

  1. Is the preparation for JEE Advanced different from JEE Main 

The preparation is not much different. The concepts and topics you study remain the same. There is only a slight difference in the exam pattern between JEE Main and JEE Advanced.

After completing the JEE Main exam, JEE Advanced is conducted 40-50 days later. 

  1. Is it compulsory to give both JEE Main and JEE Advance?
